Biomass Fuels

The CHP Team at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory is working with biomass fuels in Combined Heat and Power (CHP) production. This process uses biomass fuels in the production of electricity and usable heat through a single, highly efficient process. From initial fuel and equipment testing and analysis to end use system integration, ORNL’s CHP team is working to develop cost-effective alternatives for energy needs.

The CHP team is comprised of chemical, civil and mechanical engineers, who have access to the most advanced technologies in the world. We have years of experience working with industry, academia and government agencies researching how new technologies can improve energy use. Renewable energy sources are commonly used to power cars, heat homes and to produce cooking fuels.

As the world’s energy demand increases it is vital that we develop cost effective technologies to take advantage of these emerging fuel sources to offset the increasing cost and inefficiencies of traditional energy production.

If you have any questions regarding alternative energy or would like to learn more about the role we play in testing biomass fuels, please contact us.
