Cogeneration Power Systems

Industries, academia, national labs and the federal government turn to ORNL’s Cooling, Heating and Power Technologies Program Team for testing and development of cogeneration power systems. The work we perform helps companies large and small increase energy efficiency, reduce peak power demand, ensure better power reliability and quality, and reduce emissions.

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is the process of creating both consumable power and usable heat simultaneously from a single fuel source. This results in 50 – 70 percent higher efficiency rates. Typically this process is used in businesses, universities, and military installations across the United States and Canada.
