Renewable Energy Sources

There are many renewable energy sources to harness, yet the challenges of capturing these energy sources and turning it into energy is a complex. The Cooling, Heating and Power (CHP) Technologies Program team, within the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN, is comprised of chemical engineers, civil engineers and mechanical engineers all working to provide alternative and efficient energy solutions.

Renewable energy sources come in the form of the earth’s natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat. These sources of energy are naturally replenished and offer a clean alternative to fossil fuels. As our nation’s energy consumption continues to rise, it is imperative that we develop these technologies into viable, cost effective options to traditional energy production. We work to test and confirm various sources of energy to help promote the adoption of alternate power sources and to reduce the strain on our energy producers and transmission systems.
